Barber Titleys launch art competition

28 May 2009

Budding artists throughout Harrogate district are getting a chance to try their skills at landscape artistry this summer – thanks to local law firm Barber Titleys.

An art competition, which aims to capture the best of North Yorkshire’s green and open spaces, is inviting submissions from young artists aged between five and 16 from the North Yorkshire region.

Young artists are being invited to submit their original artwork depicting their favourite green, or open, spaces in North Yorkshire – whether they are town centre parks or wild moorland – to Barber Titleys, 6 North Park Road, Harrogate HG1 5PA, before the July 1 closing date.

Well-known Harrogate artist, Neil Simone, and managing director of art and crafts and stationery business, Jespers, Oxford Street, Peter Jesper will pick the winner from finalists chosen by staff at Barber Titleys, one of Harrogate’s longest-established law firms.

A mail-shot promoting the competition has been sent to 87 schools throughout the Harrogate district as well as to local girl guide and scout groups and the firm says that it hopes that as many young artists as possible will enter.

The winner will be presented with a set of Derwent artist supplies as well as a £30 voucher to spend on art and craft materials at Jespers of Harrogate along with a copy of Neil Simone’s book about his life as an artist How Long Does It Take?.

All entrants will receive a certificate from Barber Titleys and the finalists’ artwork will be exhibited in the firm’s offices and on a specially-created, on- line gallery on the Barber Titleys website (www.barbertitleys.co.uk) throughout the summer.

Barber Titleys managing partner, Richard Davis, says: “There has been so much gloom and doom all this year that we have decided to do something fun this summer and a competition for young people is the answer.

“There are so many attractive green spaces in Harrogate, and throughout North Yorkshire, that it is easy to take them for granted but we know that the young artists who choose to enter will capture what is special about them for us. As a firm we do not have a great deal of opportunity to interact with young people and we are all realty excited about seeing the entries.”

Anyone wanting further details on the competition will find details on the firm's website or can contact Barber Titleys marketing manager, Shawnna Porter on Tel 01423-502211.
