| Art Competition 2009 |
|
The first ever Barber Titleys art competition 2009 aims to celebrate the parks, gardens and open spaces in and around Harrogate. From the gardens at Harlow Carr to the local school football field, green spaces are an important part of our community. Often taken for granted, these areas provide a sanctuary for both humankind and wildlife. They are a place to romp and play or a quiet corner to reflect and a space to share with others.
This year marks 60 years since the National Parks Act was created, enabling large areas of land in Yorkshire to be set aside and protected for everyone to use; the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the North York Moors National Park.
Meanwhile, some of Harrogate's best known parkland has been protected for over 200 years and is now a landmark in the town centre, comprising of The Stray and Valley Gardens.
Whether you live in town or in the country, whether your favourite park is big or small, what we want to know is:
What do parks, gardens or open spaces mean to you?
Share your views of Harrogate or North Yorkshire's local parks, gardens and open spaces by submitting art work showing what these spaces mean to you.
To enter the competition, send us your original art work with scenes from any local park, garden, footpath, bridleway or playing field. Art work can include drawings, paintings, mixed media or collage.
