Lawyers help The Shirt Press Co. to an excellent finish

Shirt Press CoAN innovative shirt-pressing business which has brought a New York service to Bradford is taking on more staff after winning a series of contracts.

Contracts with retailers and professional service businesses have been won by The Shirt Press Co, Farsley, Bradford, which started trading last month (May) after receiving start-up legal help from lawyers, Barber Titleys.

The Shirt Press Co, based in 2,000 sq ft at a former textile mill, claims to be the only business in the UK offering the combination of 100 per cent office collection and delivery and a finish quality currently found only within the US and major capital cities.

The venture, run by husband and wife team, Jonathan and Georgie Rigby, was established after they spent three years working in New Jersey, US, where they used a similar service.

Now The Shirt Press Co, which collects and delivers twice a week to businesses in Bradford, Leeds and Harrogate, is providing its service to a large number of major professional service companies in the legal, accounting and financial services sectors along with retailers including Harvey Nichols, Gieves & Hawkes, Austin Reed, REISS and TM Lewin, Leeds, and Rhodes Wood which has branches in Leeds and Harrogate.

Georgie Rigby says: “In the US most people who wear a shirt and tie to work use a shirt service. The technology and systems we’ve brought from the US create an outstanding finish which ordinary laundry services cannot achieve using an iron. While a similar quality level to ours exists in London, they do not offer door-to-door collection and operate only through traditional dry-cleaning shops.

“Our service is mainly aimed at financial and legal services firms but we are also winning business through clothing shops which, as well as wanting their sales staff to look pristine, are acting as drop-off and collection points for their customers. This improves footfall in their store and many are also promoting our service at checkouts. We’ve had a hugely positive response and are taking on two more staff.

“We worked closely with Barber Titleys during the 16 months research and set up. They gave us good business advice as well as help with all commercial and investment contracts in connection with our machinery, staff and property lease. They were very professional and kept their advice simple and straight forward.”

The Shirt Press Co says it aims to be servicing 3,000 shirts a week when it achieves full capacity.

Partner with Harrogate-based Barber Titleys, Richard Davis, says: “It is always a pleasure to help new ventures but sometimes you get the chance to be involved with a fantastic new business idea and The Shirt Press Co is such an enterprise.”
